Fanny Goldfoot: Russia to Ireland and England

Fanny was born about 1862 in Russia. Her father was probably born about 1825 there. She married Joseph Kaiteer who was born about 1862 in Russia and married him abt 1885. Their children were annie b: abt 1886 in dublin, Ireland, Bella b: 1878, Jacob b: abt 1879 in England as well as Yasdell b: abt 1891 and Myer b: abt 1893. The Jessie was b: abt 1897 in Dublin Ireland as well as Abraham b: abt 1899.

Louis Goldfoot of Ireland

Louis Goldfoot was born in 1900 in Ireland to Solomon Goldfoot. He died in 1966 in South Africa. He married Rose Imerman b: 1911 in South Africa who died in 1983 in South Africa.

From Nadine Goldfoot, granddaughter, is the following information. Her great grandparents came from Pelshe in Lithuania where a famous Yeshiva was. A yeshiva is named after it in the USA. They moved to Dublin, Ireland where Louis was born. From Ireland the family minus Abraham, brother of Louis, moved to South Africa where her father and his descendents were born. Louis passed away in 1976. Abraham moved to England instead of going to South Africa.
Their children were Tanya Goldfoot b: 1934 in South Africa and died in 1959 in South Africa and Norman Goldfoot who married Rocky Levine who was born in South Africa.

Their children were Barbie Goldfoot who is now in Singapore, Nadine Goldfoot who is in England, and Many Goldfoot who is in Australia.

Ian Goldfoot of Texas is the son of Solomon Goldfoot. His sister is Denise Goldfoot. They were born in South Africa. Solomon was the 2nd youngest son of Chaim and Blume Goldfoot who settled in Dublin at the end of the 1800's. Louis Goldfoot was their 2nd eldest son and his chidlren are Norman and Tanya.

Solomon Goldfoot

I have a Solomon Goldfoot who was born on 8 September 1904. This is the father of Ian and Denise Goldfoot.

Another Solomon Goldfoot is listed below. The two may be mixed up.
Zalman "Solomon" Goldfoot was born about 1848 in Russia and died in 1904. He had married Chaia Feiga Fridjhon/Frijon who was born abt 1853-1856 and died January 1932 in South Africa. Her father was Moshe Tzvi Fridjhon and mother was Rochel Kala? Perhaps the one born in 1904 was named for the one that died in 1904.

Their children were Barney Goldfoot and Annie "Hinde" Goldfoot who was born abt 1870 and died in 1926. She had married Hyman "Henry" Karnovsky Myerson. The also had Simon Goldfoot and Tzippa "Sippa" Goldfoot who was born in 1870.

Solomon's second wife was Fanny b: abt 1852 in Russia. They married abt 1875 in Russia. They had a child born abt 1878 in Russia and Louis Goldfoot b: abt 1876 in Russia.

12/3/06: Denise and Ian Goldfoot are the children of Solomon Goldfoot, second youngest son of Chaim and Blume Goldfoot who settled in Dublin at the end of the 1800s. They were born in South Africa. Louis Goldfoot was their second eldest son and his children are Norman (who now lives in London) and the laate daughter Tanya.

Chaim and Blume were possibly married in the Ukraine. they had 6 children. The eldest was a daughter called Nadia who was possibly born in the Ukraine before they emigrated. Blume ws born in Odessa, Russia, where she grew up and graduated from the gymnasium with a special medal (she was highly intellectual). The other 5 children were born in dublin, Ireland. The eldest son was Abe (Abraham( who became a doctor. He settled in cheltenham, Gloucestershire, England, and married Rae "Rachel" Rappoport from Wales, who I believe was intermarried with the Goldfoots. Abe was a most dedicated, respected and adored doctor in cheltemham and after 50 years of unbroken service the council of cheltenham built a Geriatric Home which they named GOLDFOOT HOUSE. His children were David, a student of Oxford, but unfortunately he died under unusual circumstances; two daughter Naomi and Elizabeth who still live in England.

The eldest daughter Nadia was introduced to a most successful attorney visiting Dublin from Cape Town. He was Arthur E. Abrahams whose family connections were in London where he went on a visit and then on to Dublin. arthur and Nadia were married and returned to Cape Town, South Africa. The younger sister Jenny "Jennifer" followed to keep her company. The Denise's grandparents packed up to retire to Cape Town followed by Louis, her dad Solomon "Solly" and Isadore.

NB , Arthur's cousin, was the great Cambridge athlete Abrahams on which the film "Chariots of Fire" was based.

Denise commented on the family name. Goldfoot derives from the Germanic "Goldfuss " Yiddish Goldfoos and the word gelt for moneyor gold coins which must originate in the Guilds of Goldsmiths and gold merchants and jewellers of our ancestors who traded along the Rhine River into Germania and the land of the Slavs. Therefore I can only imagine that Goldfoots come from a highly skilled and wealthy ancestral background.

Goldfus: Yiddish or German form of English, Goldfoot

1. Samson Goldfus married Rebecca. They had a son, Isaac, born in 1865 in Telsiai, Lithuania. He died in Brynmawr in 1902. Could Isaac be itzak in Hebrew? Could this be my ggrandfather?
2. Abraham Goldfus was the brother of Samson. My grandparents had a son, Abraham, who died in childbirth. Could this be who he was named after?
This information came to me from Abraham Goldberg on 7/16/03. Goldberg is connected to the Goldfoot line and has been a researcher.

Why Russian Jews Came to Portland

According to Polina Olsen's book, The Immigrants' Children, the large group of Eastern European Jews into New York were creating overcrowded slum conditions and unemployment in the Lower East Side. People were concerned that this could cause an antisemitic problem, so the Industrial Removal Office (IRO) founded by trustees of the Baron de Hirsh Fund in 1900 relocated unemployed Jewish workers to Jewish communities in the USA. To do this they recruited local agents and these agents lent settlers money for train tickets. From 1905-1917, Ben Selling was Portland's IRO agent. Portland's Hebrew Benevolent Association helped this agent who located work and housing and then told New York that a spot was available. Many became junk peddlers with money for a horse and wagon lent by the Hebrew Benevolent Association. This must be how my grandfather, Nathan Goldfoot, got his horse and wagon. He and his wife Hattie/Ettie/Addie/ were first in Council, Idaho and married there and their first child, Charles, was born there. Then they moved to Portland, Oregon. His wife's siblings had already married Jewish men who were in Council, Idaho, and that was why she was there. This was largely a mining area. The railroad had just reached Council, and her siblings husbands were merchants there.

Jacob Goldfoot Arrives in Philadelphia, Penn.

I found Jacob Goldfoot, Russian, born abt 1884, on the Philadelphia Passenger Lists. He arrived in Philadelphia on January 3, 1895. He came from Liverpool, England and had been in Manchester for four years. He was 11 years old traveling alone. The ship was the Kensington. He was meeting his brother, listed as friend, H. Shneider. and his destination was New York. The address was 200 Madison Street, New York.

On the 1930 census of Manhattan, New York, NY, I found Jacob Goldfoot b: abt 1883 in Poland. Most likely this is the same person. He now was married to Sarah b: abt 1887. Their daughter was Hilda b: abt 1915, and had two sons. One was Harry Goldfoot b: abt 1919, and the other was George b: abt 1923. Being he was born in Poland/Russia, I would think that this was a Jewish family and we finally have a Jewish George.
